Naming Opportunities
Vancouver Island University recognizes donors who have made substantial financial commitments to the university by offering naming opportunities. Donors may recognize themselves, a family member or another individual by naming a scholarship, chair or facility in their honour. All naming must be in accordance with VIU’s naming policy, meet provincial government regulations as set out and be approved by the Board of Governors and must meet provincial government regulations. Naming recognition is available for the following:
Naming of University Facilities
This gift level is not reflective of the total cost of a building, but rather represents a significant commitment. This category includes the naming of existing buildings and buildings that will be constructed in the future, as well as entrances, gardens, conference rooms, etc. associated with each building. We would be pleased to meet with you to discuss options available in new and existing buildings on our campus.
Possible Naming Opportunities
- Library - $3 million
- Cowichan campus building - $5 million
- International Centre for Sturgeon Research -$2 million
- Centre for Shellfish Deep Bay Research Station - $2 million
Naming of Endowed Student Awards
- Scholarship $20,000
- Bursary $20,000
Naming of Academic Positions
- Endowed Chair $2.5 million
- Professorship $1.5 million
Naming of Annual Awards
- Scholarship $1,000 over three years (expires unless renewed)
- Bursary $1,000 over three years (expires unless renewed)
