Changing lives in Ghana
VIU students in the Nursing and Tourism programs travel to Ghana, Africa each year to participate in field schools and study tours.
VIU Nursing Students work alongside Ghanaian nurses, nursing students and other health care providers as they engage in experiences focusing on health and health promotion, including teaching/learning, collaborative leadership, intercultural effectiveness, women's and children's health, and HIV/AIDS. Students will also visit various cultural sites in Ghana in order to immerse themselves in Ghanaian culture and history.
Students in the Tourism program have the opportunity to travel to the Sunyani region of Ghana and work on reducing poverty in the region through capacity building in environmental education and focusing on community development and tourism enterprise development.
