Sample Program Cost

Prices quoted are net per participant and in Canadian dollars. Prices given are for groups whose members are 18 years of age and older. For groups 15 to 18 years old, prices may be higher.

  • One escort who would act as an interpreter; Homestay accommodation;
  • Three meals per day provided by the host family;
  • Tuition fees; Weekday activity program, as indicated on the sample schedule;
  • Farewell reception for students and their hosts at the end of the program.
  • Personal expenses or costs incurred during free time;
  • Daily travel from homestay to Vancouver Island University and return (approximately $3.00 per day);
  • Emergency medical insurance* for duration of the program;
  • Notebooks and pens required for class;
  • Return travel from the group’s home country to Nanaimo;
  • Airport taxes;
  • Optional day trips to Vancouver and Victoria;
  • Meals before arrival at VIU in Nanaimo and upon leaving at the end of the program, on the optional day trips, and with the Vancouver Airport transfer service.

NOTE: Emergency medical insurance is required for all groups attending a program at Vancouver Island University. This insurance can be purchased in the group’s home country prior to departure or provided by VIU at the cost of $1.65 CAD /person/day.
