Prescribed Learning Outcomes

To have a good general knowledge of the earth's planetary relations, of the general principles of physical geography, and of the outlines of the maps of Europe, Asia, Africa, America, Oceanica, and of the British Empire, and more particularly of that of the Dominion of Canada. To have a thorough knowledge of geographical terms.
Pupils completing the First class [grade 1] are expected to know the Cardinal points of the compass, map definitions and map notations.
Pupils completing the Second Class will be able to define geographical terms; will be familiar in the map of the world generally; and with maps of North America and British Columbia.
Pupils in the Third Class will have a General knowledge of the map of the Dominion of Canada.
- *Pupils will be able to locate and delineate the boundaries of Canada's seven (7) provinces. Pupils will also be able to outline the boundaries of Athabasca and Assiniboia in the Northwest Territories.
Pupils completing the Fourth Class will have: Detailed knowledge of maps of Europe, Asia, and Africa; maps of Canada and British Columbia.
Pupils graduating from the Fifth Class will demonstrate an Understanding of political geography; and a knowledge of the products, etc. of the principal countries of the world.

Suggested Instructional Strategies The wall maps should be used freely. A globe should be used in teaching the shape of the earth, its motions, the seasons, etc. Thorough knowledge of the terms used and the explanations given in [the] introductory chapter of text-book is essential.

Suggested Assessment Strategies Senior pupils, over the age of twelve, who are completing the Fifth Class and who aspire to higher education, should be prepared to answer questions on the provincial High School Entrance Examination.
