ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY & HYGIENE

Prescribed Learning Outcomes 

 

 

Pupils will be able to
  • Describe the anatomical divisions of the skeleton; identify and correctly spell the names of the principal bones of the human body.
  • Locate, name, and describe the functions of the principal organs of the body.

Pupils will

  • Be thoroughly acquainted with hygienic rules for the proper care of the body.
  • Be aware of the evil effects of stimulants and narcotics on the nervous system.

Suggested Instructional Strategies 
Oral primary instruction in these allied subjects may be given to the whole school, but pupils in the Fourth and Fifth Readers should be required to use the text-book.

The teaching of Physiology and Hygiene affords the teacher the opportunity of imparting practical instructions on many points of vital consequence to the pupil.

In giving instructions in Hygiene, the branch subject of Temperance, with reference to the evil effects of stimulants and narcotics on the human system, should not be overlooked.

Suggested Assessment Strategies 
Senior pupils, over the age of twelve, who are completing the Fifth Class and who aspire to higher education, should be prepared to answer questions on the provincial High School Entrance Examination.
