Prescribed Learning Outcomes 

 

 

 

 

General:
  • Pupils will be able to write readily and well the language of the country.
  • Pupils will know the proper manner of holding the pen and the correct sitting position for writing at the desk.

First Class: Pupils will know the letters of the alphabet and will be able to write simple words on slates with slate pencils.

Second Class: Pupils will be able to write simple words, using slates and slate pencils.

Third Class: Pupils will be able to use and distinguish between capitals and lower case letters; will be able to write words neatly and legibly with pen and ink in copy books with ruled pages.

Slates and slate pencils.

Straight pens, nibs, and permanent ink.

Gage’s Copy-books.

Payson, Dunton & Scribner series of Copy-books.

Suggested Instructional Strategies 

Particular attention should be given to the proper manner of holding the pen, and correct position at the desk.

The systems of penmanship authorized are Gage’s copy-books, and Payson, Dunton & Scribner’s series.  If the teacher prefer, he can use plain copy-books, setting the headlines.
