ITAS 152 (3) Introduction to Digital Computer Concepts
An introduction to the concepts and techniques used in digital computer systems. Topics include basic electrical and electronics theory, interpretation of electrical and electronic schematic diagrams, and Boolean logic and computer numbering systems. ITAS 155 (3) Computer Hardware Essentials
An opportunity to become familiar with a wide range of computer components including motherboards, input/output boards, floppy drives, mass storage devices, CD ROM readers, video graphic interface cards and displays, printers, plotters, video capture devices, audio interface cards, data backup systems, communications modems and other peripherals and interfaces. ITAS 155 was formerly called ITAS 155T; credit will not be granted for both courses. (2:0:2)

ITAS 167 (3) Applied Operating Systems
An applied exploration of the installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting techniques applicable to modern operating systems. Topics include researching hardware and software compatibility, operating system installation, hardware device configuration, peripheral connectivity and network configuration. ITAS 171 (3) Social Aspects of the Internet
An overview of the internet publishing field to introduce the historical, social, ethical, legal and economic issues surrounding this technology and its rapid growth. ITAS 175 (3) Local Area Networks
An examination of in-depth information and experience involved with most aspects of network planning, design, implementation, and testing. Topics include Windows networking models and the development and management of an office network based on current Windows network clients and servers. Also includes hands-on installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer-to-computer analog and digital communications hardware. ITAS 175 was formerly called ITAS 175T; credit will not be granted for both courses. (2:0:2)

ITAS 181 (3) Applied Network Operating Systems

An exploration of case studies and projects involving a current programming language, along with select programming resources. ITAS 186 (3) Internet Programming
An applied introduction to the concepts and practices used by professionals in the Internet programming field. Includes an exploration of case studies and projects (both individual and team based) involving a major current Internet programming language, along with select emerging Internet programming resources. Emphasizes the importance of sound testing and debugging strategies in any Internet programming project. ITAS 186 was formerly called ITAS 186T; credit will not be granted for both courses. (2:0:2)

ITAS 191 (3) Graphic Design for Internet Publication
An introduction to the elements of graphic design specifically focused on the issues relevant to the Internet and other interactive computer-based mediums. This project based course enables students to understand and work with the basic design elements at play in the interactive publication of information. ITAS 192 (3) Internet Authoring
An applied introduction to the concepts and practices used by professionals in the Internet authoring field. Students explore case studies and complete their own projects (both individual and team based) involving the major current Internet authoring languages, along with select emerging Internet authoring resources. ITAS 195T (4) Practicum
Gain direct experience in a workplace setting. Experience professional expectations and explore working situations commonly encountered by Information Technology professionals. Gain first hand knowledge in dealing with the constant state of change prevalent in the field. (0:0:0 —80 for 4 weeks)

ITAS 216 (3) Hardware and Topologies
An introduction to hardware and topologies. Topics include network devices such as interface cards, repeaters, concentrators, hubs, bridges, routers, and gateways; network designs (topologies) such as bus, star, and some hybrids. ITAS 216 was formerly called ITAS 216T; credit will not be granted for both courses. (2:0:2)

ITAS 218 (3) Administration and Security
An introduction to the art of network maintenance including tasks such as user adds, deletes, changes, password management, data backup, permissions, shares, disk space control, and change control. Learning to think like a computer hacker will be used to illustrate how to secure networks. ITAS 218 was formerly called ITAS 218T; credit will not be granted for both courses. (2:0:2)

ITAS 233 (3) Network Administration
An introduction to the basics of managing a network, using administrative tools to set up, manage and use basic network services, including file systems, network printing, security and email. ITAS 233 was formerly called ITAS 233T; credit will not be granted for both courses. (2:0:2)

ITAS 240T (3) Entrepreneurial & Business Concepts
An examination of the skills needed to manage both a small business start-up as well as the on-going operation of a firm. Prepares participants to work effectively in an ever changing business environment typical of information technology sector. Topics include identifying business opportunities, conducting feasibility studies, identifying legal issues in business, government regulation, entrepreneurial finance, marketing and managerial leadership. Credit will only be granted for one of ITAS 190T or ITAS 240T. (2:0:2)

ITAS 251T (3) Interactive Communications I
An investigation of the core concepts involved in the design, construction and implementation of information structures for use in any of the emerging interactive computer-based mediums. Focuses on the interface and information design issues relevant to the underlying interactive computer-based mediums. (1:1:2)

ITAS 253T (3) Core Internet Technologies I
An introduction to the current hardware and software standards. protocols and industry initiatives which together comprise the Internet. An exploration of all major standards, protocols, and products currently in use in the design, construction and implementation of professional Internet resources. (2:0:2)

ITAS 255 (3) Internet Scripting I
An applied course that builds on the Internet Authoring course by extending students knowledge and experience into the area of Internet scripting languages. Using case studies and their own projects students explore design and implementation strategies in this complex area of the Internet. ITAS 255 was formerly called ITAS 255T; credit will not be granted for both courses. (2:0:2)

ITAS 257 (3) Internet Server Management I
An introduction to current hardware and software technologies used in the design, construction, and maintenance of a professional level Internet servers. Students explore various standards and tools currently used by Internet professionals. ITAS 257 was formerly called ITAS 257T; credit will not be granted for both courses. (2:0:2)

ITAS 258T (3) Independent Project I
For those interested in a one-term independent project directed by a member of the department. Project plans (including feasibility study, learning outcomes, research plans, and applied deliverables) must be approved by the seminar leader and the department Coordinator prior to registration. (0:1:4 for 12 weeks)

ITAS 259T (1.5) Emerging Internet Themes I
An exploration of currently emerging themes, both social and technical, in the Internet world. Students investigate a variety of pre-release and just released Internet technologies and tools; explore emerging social and economic trends; and build expertise in researching, evaluating and implementing change in this constantly evolving field. (5:10:5 for 2 weeks)
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
ITAS 261T (3) Internet Multimedia Technologies
A solid foundation in the theories and applications of modern, Internet-based multimedia technologies. Focal areas include the formats, production and distribution of digital audio and digital video. Investigates current multimedia standards and tools, providing an opportunity to gain professional-level proficiency with several of these tools/standards. Students complete a major Internet-based multimedia project. (2:0:2)

ITAS 263T (2) Applied Internet Server Foundation
A solid grounding in the theories and applications of Internet-based server management. Students plan, install and maintain active Internet servers running a variety of services including HTTP, SHTTP, SMTP, NNTP and ASP. (1:0:1.5)

ITAS 264 (3) Technology & Human Management
An overview of a variety of service delivery models, business resumption models, technology tracking methods, support and usage policies and procedures. An introduction to worker issues such as time management, on-going skills updating, and extreme change. ITAS 264 was formerly called ITAS 264T; credit will not be granted for both courses. (2:0:2)

ITAS 270T (3) Interactive Communications II
An advanced investigation of the concepts involved in the design, construction and implementation of information structures for use in the emerging interactive computer-based mediums delivered via the Internet. Focuses on the advanced application of the interface and information design issues relevant to the underlying interactive computer-based mediums in use today on the Internet. (1:1:2)
Prerequisite: Min. GPA of 3.5 in first term of specialty, and no lower than "D" in any one course in first term of specialty.
ITAS 271T (6) Internet Project Development
An opportunity to apply skills and knowledge learned in all previous courses, through a self-directed project. Requires a demonstration of mastery of previous curricular themes. (1:2:4)
Prerequisite: Min. GPA of 3.5 in first term of specialty, and no lower than "D" in any one course in first term of specialty.
ITAS 274 (3) Internet Scripting II
An applied Internet Scripting course to explore and study advanced Internet scripting strategies, tools and techniques. Using case studies, professional experts and their own projects students explore advanced design and implementation strategies in this complex area of the Internet. ITAS 274 was formerly called ITAS 274T; credit will not be granted for both courses. (2:0:2)

ITAS 275T (3) Independent Project II
For those interested in continuing the work done in ITAS 258T. Complete a one-term independent project directed by a member of the department. ITAS 279T (2) Emerging Internet Themes II
A continuation of ITAS 259T, exploring currently emerging themes, both social and technical, in the Internet world. Students investigate a variety of pre-released and just released Internet technologies and tools; explore emerging social and economic trends; and build expertise in researching, evaluating and implementing change in this constantly evolving field. (5:10:5 for 2 weeks)

ITAS 280 (3) Advanced Wide Area Technologies
An examination of advanced wide area networking technologies. An opportunity to gain and demonstrate professional-level proficiency in the advanced aspects of Internet working standards and protocols (including the role of standards bodies in the ongoing development of Internet working); the advanced aspects of planning, configuration and maintenance of wide area networking hardware & software; and the ability to intelligently apply core knowledge in advanced situations (including the professional level use of modern support resources). ITAS 280 was formerly called ITAS 280T; credit will not be granted for both courses. (2:0:2)

ITAS 284T (3) Internet Applications Development
Builds on previous Internet scripting courses by focusing on writing server-side applications. Topics include design, creation and implementation of server deployed, database driven applications. (2:0:2)

ITAS 288 (3) Database Administration and Design
An applied introduction to the design, implementation and administration of database systems. Topics include data modeling and normalization, joins, transactions, locking, distributed database issues, SQL programming, and database server administration. ITAS 288 was formerly called ITAS 288T; credit will not be granted for both courses. (2:0:2)

ITAS 290T (4) Practicum Level II
An opportunity for direct experience in a workplace setting, or with the completion of a major, professional-level independent project. Students experience professional expectations and explore working situations commonly encountered by information technology professionals. (0:0:0 —80 for 4 weeks)
