Liberal Studies and Love of Learning

Vancouver Island University's Love of Learning initiative allows community members to participate in a wide range of degree courses without committing to a prolonged program of study leading to the degree itself. Such audit students pay a reduced fee, do not have to fulfil course-prerequisites and do not have to complete assignments or take exams, but otherwise play a full part in the course.

The Liberal Studies Department is an enthusiastic supporter of Love of Learning, and has made all of its classroom courses accessible to the initiative. These courses are interdisciplinary, exploring the literature, art, music, philosophy and science of the Western tradition. The main activity in all courses is round-table discussion, though lectures, demonstrations and hands-on lab and studio components are included in some.
