Library accounts for community borrowers, alumni, and others

Community borrowers

For a Library card and PIN, go to your Library Service Desk.  Present identification with a current address and pay $25.00 annual fee, or $9.00 for four months. To renew, present your current Library card and pay the fee as above. Community borrower privileges do not include off-campus access to most licensed resources, but most are accessible on-campus. Privileges do not include Interlibrary or Equipment loans.

Alumni

Purchase an Alumni Privilege card for $10.00 and bring it to your Library Service Desk to get a free annual Community library card and PIN.  To renew, purchase another yearly Alumni Privilege card and present it, and your library card, at the Library Service Desk.  Alumni privileges do not include off-campus access to most licensed resources, but most are accessible on-campus. VIU retirees

VIU Retirees may continue to use their VIU ID cards and have the same Library access and privileges as employees (including off-campus access to licensed resources), with the exception of Interlibrary and Equipment Loans. No renewal is necessary.

CURBA cards for in-person borrowing at other libraries

At your Library Service Desk, present your COPPUL, CREPUQ, ASIN, or IUBP card from a qualifying post-secondary institution and receive a free annual Community library card and PIN.  To renew, present your library card along with an updated COPPUL, CREPUQ, ASIN, or IUBP card. CURBA privileges do not include off-campus access to most licensed resources, but most are accessible on-campus. Privileges do not include Interlibrary or Equipment Loans.

Please remember

  • Your VIU Library card must be presented each time materials are borrowed.
  • Your Library PIN (Personal Identification Number) is essential for all online Library services.
  • Report loss of your card and address changes to Service Desk staff.  A $2.00 fee is charged to replace a lost or stolen card.
