VIU Men's Basketball
comments by Tony Bryce, Head Coach VIU Men's Basketball

billettLangara was in town and coming off a very nice win last weekend against a talented and deep UNBC squad. We were able to carry an very good, intense week of practice over to the weekend and capture 2 big wins on home court.

Friday we were able to execute the defensive game plan to a tee, holding Langara to just 27 points in the first half and 53 in the game.  We also physically dominated the paint and the glass, outrebounding Langara 56-27.  I thought it was our best performance thus far this season.  It was nice to see a very balanced attack which will be key for us once again this year (sacrificing individual stat/glory for team success).   Kaban led with 18, while Wohlers added 16, Thompson was great with 15  points and 11 boards, and Joel Bron was a handful with 13 and 9.  McCarthy was actually  our top rebounder with 12.

Saturday afternoon we were not quite as sharp, but able to build a 23 point lead and cruise to victory.  Langara was better on this day but once again we created havoc on the defensive end in the first half, leading to a 42-26 halftime lead.  "Jacob Thom wrapped up a phenomenal all around weekend with 10 points, 12 assists and 4 steals."  Kaban had 18 in just 17 minutes, while McCarthy added 15, and Joel Bron had another solid outing with 9 points and 12 boards.
