The grant is identified for professional development opportunities in either NCCP or related coach education, and for operational costs associated with the apprentice coach.
Aileen Holder, was a VIU athlete for five years and is one of the most outstanding athletes to ever play for VIU. In the 2009/10 season she was the captain of the Soccer team as well as captain of the Volleyball team as well as an outstanding student. Aileen expressed an interest in coaching upon finishing her final year of eligibility and is excited about being an Apprentice Coach this coming season. 22/08/10 - VIU vs CAL STATE
Game 3 vs Cal State San Marcos - 3, VIU -1
After a slow start freshman Bronte Fitzsimmons gave the Mariners the lead against NAIA #14th ranked Cal State San Marcos in 20th minute, it was Fitzsimmons first official goal as a Mariner, San Marcos the more physical team equalized just before halftime on a VIU mistake.
Mariners started the second half with a bit more jump in their play and created numerous chances but could not find the back of the net, San Marcos took the lead in the 65th minute when a Mariner defender headed a ball into their own net, the California university took a two goal lead in the 80th minute as the Mariners were pressing up trying to get the equalizer.
"Vanguard and Cal Sate Marcos are two of the top teams in the US, they were by far the most physical teams we have faced in my four years of coaching at VIU, we responded well against San Marcos especially in the second half where I thought we had more of the play and created some real good scoring chances and matched them stride for stride in the physical department, we play in one of the top leagues in Canada but these teams were the toughest we are going face this year.
