Vancouver Island University Establishes India Office

Vancouver Island University is taking another major step towards furthering its reputation as an internationally engaged university. Plans have been finalized with VIU MBA Alumni, Mr. Prashant Srivastava to manage the new VIU office based in New Delhi India which is the first overseas office for the institution. With this office, VIU becomes an active participant in supporting the growing educational needs in India which boasts one of the fastest growing economies in the world, and places a high value on education. Bronwyn Jenkins-Deas, the Dean of International Education calls the opening of the office, "an exciting opportunity for VIU and the region it serves to participate directly in the learning opportunities that this office represents."
The office will be a centre for information about Vancouver Island University for the local Indian market, for prospective students and parents, for present and potential institutional partners and well as VIU representatives and alumni. Some of the key responsibilities of the office will be to:
- Initiate, manage and coordinate marketing and recruitment activities on behalf of VIU throughout India, including advertisements and site visits to high schools, universities, other educational institutions and corporations to promote VIU Programs
- Conduct market research in India and make recommendations to VIU about educational opportunities
- Advise the VIU International Education office about social, legal, political and economic issues
- Support VIU Faculty and staff visiting on institutional business
- Organize alumni events and provide ongoing information to VIU alumni in India, in consultation with the VIU alumni office in Canada
- Provide pre-departure information and orientation to students accepted to VIU
The official opening of the new office takes place in February, 2007 and will be attended by officials from VIU as well as local institutional and government dignitaries.
