Bryan Stovell

Bryan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Ed from UBC, a Master’s Degree in Jazz Ed from U Vic, and he studied Jazz Theory and Improv at Berklee in Boston.

Bryan has taught music for 46 years from Middle School to University levels. His students won many provincial and national awards and his student groups have performed in Japan, Europe, the US and in every major city in Canada. Many of his former students are professional musicians and music educators, the best known being international stars Diana Krall, Ingrid Jensen, and Christine Jensen.

Bryan is a Music Fest Canada Hall of Fame member and recipient of the Marshall McLuhan Distinguished Teacher Award for both BC and Canada.

Currently, he teaches Jazz Theory and Imrov in the Vancouver Island University Music Department in Nanaimo. He adjudicates and teaches at regional band festivals and music camps across Canada. Bryan is also Chairman of the Concert Band division of Music Fest Canada and he serves on the Music Fest Board.
