



The Art and Design Department at VIU offers study opportunities and travel to New York City on alternating reading breaks in February. These trips are organized by Visual Art faculty and VIU Study Abroad. Over the course of a week students will visit several of New York City’s most renowned art museums, including The Frick Collection, The Museum of Modern Art, The Guggenheim, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. Optional art and architectural walking tours led by faculty are also offered, along with plenty of free time for exploring the city’s famous neighborhoods and historic landmarks.
The 2009 New York Trip price is $1,990 based on a minimum group size of 20. All payments should be considered non-refundable. A passport, waivers and medical insurance are required before departure.
The ticket includes:
- 6 nights in New York at the Skyline Hotel (quad share - 4 people per room, sharing beds)
- 1 night in Richmond on return (quad share - 4 people per room, sharing beds)
- Round trip airfare from Vancouver to JFK Airport on Cathay Pacific, including taxes and fuel surcharges
- Transfer from Vancouver Int’l Airport to the ferry terminal on return (Mar 1)
- Round trip arrival/departure transfers from the airport to the hotel in NYC
- Daily breakfast, subway passes and entrances to 8 museums while in NYC
The ticket does not include:
- Lunches, dinners and personal entertainment/shopping
- Passport (required for everyone except US citizens)
- Visas, if required (not required for Canadian citizens)
- Out-of-country medical insurance (All travelers who do not purchase the all-inclusive insurance will be required to provide proof of out-of-country medical insurance, valid for travel in the USA, before departure)
