Course Description:

A comprehensive, applied overview of the skills, knowledge, and procedures required for effective environmental monitoring on construction projects. This three-day course will include discussions, interactive lectures, and numerous practical exercises that explore the discipline of environmental monitoring, and the reality and misconceptions that surround this common, but misunderstood, environmental practice.

Objective:

This program will train participants to effectively conduct environmental monitoring programs for a wide variety of construction projects throughout Canada. (e.g., stream crossing installations, pipeline development, highway construction, forestry, land development, etc.). Environmental monitoring will be defined and methods of delivering environmental monitoring into projects will be discussed. The course also explores environmental monitoring as it relates to environmental legislation and regulations, project permits and authorizations, erosion and sediment control, deleterious substance control, in-water construction, water quality assessment, habitat management, site and habitat restoration, environmental management plans, and the responsibilities of all construction parties in project environmental management. Effective environmental reporting and diligent professional practice are also discussed.

This course will be of interest to individuals providing environmental monitoring (i.e. Environmental Monitors), individuals requesting (often regulators) or procuring environmental monitoring services (project proponents and/or construction contractors), and individuals working with Environmental Monitors.
