Description:

A detailed two or three-day practical review of standard North American fish habitat assessment and inventory methods. Through 0.5 days of theory, and 1.5 or 2.5 days of field training, participants will learn to complete advanced fish habitat assessment procedures and measurements common to a wide variety of fish habitat inventory and assessment procedures.

(Note: the two-day course contains a shorter field component. All other content remains consistent)

Class vs Field:

Class: 0.5 days; Field: 1.5 (two-day course) or 2.5 days (three-day course)

Objective:

This program will train personnel to be capable of conducting advanced fish habitat assessments throughout North America.

  • Define field safety considerations
  • Define standard field sampling methods
  • Demonstrate proper use of field measurement equipment
  • Describe and demonstrate standard field measurement procedures
  • Demonstrate proper field equipment maintenance procedures
  • Conduct water velocity procedures using Float method and Velocity meter
  • Determine flow rate or discharge using Float method and Velocity meter
  • Define and contrast fish habitat features and requirements.
  • Define and contrast standard fish habitat assessment and inventory methods.
  • Quantitative fish habitat for a given fish species and life stage.
  • Conduct standard fish habitat assessment data collection.
  • Identify and quantify fish habitat disturbance indicators.

Prerequisites:

Nil.

You Supply:

Leak-proof chestwaders, polarized sunglasses, hat with a brim, wading belt, non-slip footwear and appropriate personal field wear.
