Nobody's Child, Everybody's Children:
To be or not to be?: A Critical Appraisal of the Welfare of Children Conceived through New Reproductive Technologies
Dr. Eric Blyth
Over three million children are believed to have been born worldwide as a result of "new reproductive technologies". This presentation will review the proposition that children are always best-served by being born. It will argue that there are defensible welfare arguments curtailing unrestricted access to NRTs, but that all incursions into adults' reproductive autonomy need to be justified.
Eric Blyth is Professor of Social Work at the University of Huddersfield, England. He has two adopted sons and has published and researched extensively in the field of infertility and assisted conception for over15 years. His particular interests are in donor procedures and surrogacy and the welfare of individuals conceived through reproductive technologies.
