Nobody's Child, Everybody's Children:

Irene Ryll, RN

Irene Ryll is the mother, through donor conception, to 3 children under the age of 13, one of whom has some concerning health issues.

Irene co-ordinates the Infertility Connection support group in Edmonton, and advocated for legislation in Alberta to clarify the legal rights and responsibilities of gamete donors. She had spoken before government committees, and lobbied for the passage of Bill C6, which became law in March 2004.

Irene has been trying unsuccessfully, for a number of years, to access information for her children from the clinic at which they were conceived. She would like government action to be taken to preserve all records residing in Doctor's offices and sperm banks.

She is a strong advocate for a voluntary registry that would maintain records of children conceived, families and donors - protection that does not exist within the current legislation and/or regulations.
