Start your University Career off on the right foot! All new University students are urged to participate in VIU’s New Student Orientation Program on Thursday, September 1, 2011. Orientation is a great way for first-year students to meet classmates, faculty and staff, while being introduced to a full-range of available campus life activities and resources.

As well, we want to ensure that parents/guardians have the information needed to support their student in making important academic and life choices.

Nanaimo Campus

Meet in the Royal Bank Plaza, in front of Building 200. A free BBQ is provided from 12 pm – 2 pm at the Nanaimo campus, in between Building 300 and the VIU Bookstore (Building 305) for all New Student Orientation participants.  The VIU Bookstore (Building 305) will be accommodating new students with extended hours during New Student Orientation, and will remain open until 5:30pm on this day.

Morning Session, 9:00am – 12:00pm

Afternoon Session, 2:00pm – 5:00pm

What to expect

  • New Student Orientation Itinerary and information package pick up begins 20 minutes prior to the start of each session (8:40 am and 1:40 pm) in the Royal Bank Plaza
  • Welcome from VIU President Dr. Ralph Nilson
  • Welcome from your Faculty
  • Fun and personalized campus tour that will allow you to become more familiar with VIU and the buildings you will be spending time in
  • Chances to win free first-year student prize packs

Parking

Parking in Lots A,B,C,E,U,S will be COMPLIMENTARY on September 1, 2011 for students and parents. Typically, pay parking is in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including evenings and weekends at the Nanaimo Campus. Cowichan Campus

Meet in Room 140 at the Cowichan Campus.

Date: Wednesday August 31, 2011

10:00am – 12:30pm

Remember to bring with you:

  • Your student number and photo ID (to use when creating a VIU Student ID card)
  • A print out of your course schedule (to use for purchasing textbooks and determining which buildings on campus you will be studying in)
  • A reusable beverage container for use during the Free BBQ and at NSO water stops

Parking

Parking is free at VIU’s Cowichan Campus.
