The Research & Scholarly Activity Office can assist you with your research pursuits:

  • Identify external and internal grants which are available and provide application guidelines and criteria.
  • Provide resources for grant application writing, such as providing on-line tips and examples of successful and unsuccessful applications.
  • Help applicants applying for external grants develop a CV and provide data entry services to get it on-line in the federal granting agency database.
  • Review grant applications prior to submission and make suggestions, or connect you with an editor, a reviewer or a co-researcher.
  • Coordinate assembly of external grant components, ensuring that all the required documents meet the agency specifications, are in the right order, are packaged according to agency guidelines, that all the required signatures are obtained, and that the application is submitted in the mode specified in the guidelines, by the submission deadline. The Research Office also provides an institutional cover letter for the application.
  • Provide workspace for researchers and/or student research assistants.
  • Provide space for meetings and other research-related events.
  • Provide workshops, e.g., how to prepare a CV for a specific agency, or research techniques.
  • Help get you started by brainstorming, verifying eligibility, finding a focus for the application, identifying the research question, or holding your hand.
  • Send out email announcements regarding opportunities for funding.
  • Provide on-going resources via our Research web site.
  • Help set up internal administrative systems when a grant is awarded. For example, we can assist in obtaining a research cost centre, support the generation of required reports, or even help you spend your money.
  • Provide reminders when interim or final written or financial reports are due to grant agencies.
  • Provide help regarding the generation of matching funds required.
  • Help keep you on the moral high ground and out of jail.
