Frequently Asked Questions

I was nominated to compete nationally for a CIHR Canada Graduate Scholarship, when will I be notified of the funding decision?

CIHR usually posted the notification results for award recipients on their web site in mid July. Award recipients should also receive written notification directly from CIHR.

How do I apply for a job on campus as a research assistant?

Check out the job postings at the Campus Career Centre. You could also look through the Active External Research Grant and Awards and Internal Grants and Leaves Awarded web pages and contact faculty directly and ask if they are looking to hire research assistants to help with their research.

In regard to SSHRC Doctoral Awards, would it cover admissions into foreign universities? Also how can I submit my application internally?

The SSHRC doctoral scholarships & fellowships are only tenable at Canadian universities. However, those who receive a scholarship can also apply for the SSHRC Michael Smith Foreign Supplement Program. This program provides a maximum of $6,000 for students to gain research experience abroad for 3-6 months.

You would apply internally at the university where you are registered as long as that university has received a quota from SSHRC. If you have not yet registered for a PhD program but would like to apply for funding then you would apply directly to SSHRC.

Please see SSHRC's funding opportunity web pages for more details about the award programs: http://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/index-eng.aspx.
