The Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS) & the Tutorial

The Tri-council Policy Statement (TCPS) is a common research ethics policy for human research conducted in institutions funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), which includes VIU .

VIU “is committed to maintaining the highest ethical standards in research involving human subjects and to seeing that the safety, health, welfare, and rights of subjects are adequately protected” (Policy 31.03). As part of that commitment, VIU requires that researchers be familiar with and follow the TCPS.

The TCPS Tutorial

An introductory online tutorial is available to help researchers learn about or otherwise expand their knowledge of the TCPS.

Completion of the tutorial is mandatory for student researchers and members of the VIU Research Ethics Board (REB).

The tutorial may take as little as 2 hours, and may be completed during several different sessions. Click here to go to the tutorial website.
