Applying for Graduate School is the next big step for many students
at Vancouver Island University, and it is never too soon to start
strategizing for acceptance by your desired school or research
supervisor. Join us for a discussion about:
choosing a graduate school;
choosing a graduate supervisor;
developing a graduate application and cover letter; and
building your CV to highlight the academic and research strengths
that you will bring with you while engaged in graduate level
studies.
Discussion panel will include: Dr. Erik Krogh, Chemistry; Dr.
Cheryl Warsh, History; Joanne Schroeder, Management; Alexis Beaubier,
Campus Career Centre; Dr. Kathleen Read, Librarian and recent
PhD graduate; and one VIU graduate who is currently enrolled in
a Masters program.
Refreshments will be provided. Hosted by the Research and Scholarly
Activity Office and the Campus Career Centre.
Students will be introduced to the NSERC Alexander Graham
Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship (CGS) and Postgraduate Scholarship
(PGS) master's award programs;
learn about the application process; and
receive tips for preparing a winning application.

to Write a Successful Research Proposal and CV
A winning research proposal takes time to craft – how are
you preparing over the summer to submit a well-crafted application
for research funding in the Fall or Winter ? This is your opportunity
to spend some time considering key strategies to undertake over
the summer so that your winning proposal is in good shape for
submission when the fall deadlines arrive.
