Research Projects Summary
A Needs Assessment of Perinatal Programs for Adolescent Mothers in the City of Nanaimo, British Columbia
Principle Investigator: Colleen Stinson
This research examined the effectiveness of existing perinatal programs for adolescent mothers. Nanaimo has a high adolescent pregnancy rate compared to the rest of the province. Community members were interviewed to establish the availability and delivery of social programs. Challenges and gaps were identified (e.g. transportation, housing); however, almost all programs did encourage protective factors to help support adolescent mothers.
Expressed Goals and Theories of Intelligence in Private and Public School Settings.
Principle Investigator: Larissa Predy
This research examined the causal effect of learning theories and goal-orientations (Grant & Dweck, 2003) on attitudes and motivations in public and private elementary school teachers.
Imposed Intelligence Beliefs and Subsequent Learning Motivation in College Students: An Examination of Longitudinal Effects.
Principle Investigaor: Tara Semple
It has been proposed that how susceptible a person is to helpless versus mastery-oriented behaviour, in the face of failure, depends on which theory of intelligence that person holds (Dweck & Legget, 1988). This study aims to determine the long-term effects of informational exposure (incremental or entity theory) on intelligence beliefs in college students.
