Master of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management

The Department of Recreation and Tourism Management is excited to introduce the new Master of Arts in Sustainable Leisure Management degree.

In today's climate, all industries must examine and enhance their sustainability practices. This requires innovative thinking and leadership to bring about change.

The new MA in Sustainable Leisure Management will allow leaders the opportunity to explore and apply innovative solutions to sustainability challenges in the global context.  Students will be instructed by VIU faculty, international scholars from the World Leisure Organization and recognized leaders in sustainable development.

The 16 month program starts with an 8 month residency for coursework in Nanaimo. Students then undertake fieldwork and complete a research thesis. This program prepares leaders to examine and create solutions which ensure that residents and travelers alike can enjoy recreation experiences, natural and cultural amenities, heritage resources, and adventure as part of their life experiences on a sustainable basis.
