BC Regional Innovation Chair in Tourism and Sustainable Rural Development
Through this position Nicole provides ongoing support to communities throughout BC to incorporate tourism into sustainable development goals.

Nicole has a strong track record in research in the areas of rural tourism development, sustainability, innovation and behaviour change, community development and economic development. Her input is solicited by policy makers at the regional, provincial and national level with respect to her research expertise, and she maintains active involvement with professional associations such as World Leisure, the Travel and Tourism Research Association, the Canadian Rural Research Network.

Rick's research and teaching focuses on nature based tourism and recreation. His projects and publications deal with parks and protected areas, marine conservation, ecotourism development and tour guiding. Internationally, Rick is involved in projects in Ghana, Tanzania, and Thailand. He is a board member with the Science and the Management of Protected Areas Association. |

Dan has an extensive background studying aboriginal recreation and sport, outdoor recreation resource management by indigenous communities, co-management of recreation resources, racism in tourism and recreation settings, aboriginal tourism, rural community development & tourism, arctic & remote northern tourism and efforts to change the unequal distribution of resources in Canadian society.
He has done work with Salish, Nuu-Chah-Nulth, and other coastal peoples, as well as the Anishinabe, Cree, and Métis of Manitoba, Northern Ontario, and Minnesota. He frequently runs field schools to remote areas of Canada and Mexico. |

Grounded in the context of leisure, and in particular, women's leisure behaviours and motivations, Aggie's work has explored community development, gender, and participatory sport tourism. Her current interests include: community-based recreation and tourism, ecotourism and poverty alleviation, and community development in international settings.

Having been involved in public and non profit Recreation Services for 25 plus years, Joanne enjoyed a variety of leisure delivery experiences. She has been involved in both large and small scale event planning, program planning for all ages, conference and leadership development, facility design, marketing design and promotional strategies.
As a consulting entrepreneur, Joanne was able to work with public and private organizations to design marketing plans and marketing education. Teaching focus is in the area of program planning, marketing, event management, families, seniors and youth services. Her personal interest is experiencing leisure in the great outdoors, all forms included. |

Rob’s principal interests relate to exploring the human experience resulting from leisure interactions. This focus is reflected in a current collaborative project examining cultural event experiences; in particular how small-scale public cultural events provide an arena for the performativity of identity and community. Rob’s PhD research is being conducted in partnership with the ICURA funded initiative “Protected Areas and Poverty Reduction: A Canada-Africa Research and Learning Alliance” and is concerned with First Nations’ related tourism development on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. |
