Education Abroad Scholarships
Nine new Education Abroad Scholarships have been created for students accepted into a VIU Education Abroad program (an exchange, field school, internship or practicum overseas). Application deadline is FEB 26 and forms will be available on thes site after mid January. On-line application form.
Irving K. Barber B.C. International Scholarship Program
These scholarship programs have been created to support students pursuing part of their post-secondary studies in an approved exchange, field school, practicum, internship or co-op program overseas. They are open to eligible students enrolled in a program of one year in length, leading to a credential offered by a B.C. public post-secondary institution.

Premier's One World Scholarship
- Scholarships valued at $20,000 each are available annually from the Premier’s One World Scholarship program for B.C. public post-secondary students wishing to pursue post-secondary education outside of Canada or the United States. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit. Four will be awarded to BC students in 2008/2009and one in 2009/2010.
- Students must be enrolled in an academic program leading to a credential that requires at least two years of full time study for completion and be able to demonstrate a high level of academic achievement in their post-secondary studies to date, such as having at least a B+ or equivalent academic standing, as well as considerable involvement in their institution and/or community. The duration of the Education Abroad program must be a minimum of one academic year.

One World Scholarship
- No scholarships for the 2009/2010 or 2010/2011 academic years due to market conditions.
- Students must have been accepted into a study or work abroad program that forms an integral part of their credentialed studies. For the purposes of this scholarship, an eligible program is an activity that is either a formal part of the student's credential program at VIU OR that carries academic credit recognized by VIU. The Education Abroad program must be at least 3 weeks in length and no longer than one year.

Pacific Horizons Scholarship
- No scholarships for the 2009/2010 or 2010/2011 academic years due to market conditions.
- Students must have made arrangements to participate in cultural or language learning studies outside Canada and the USA. For the purposes of this scholarship, an eligible Education Abroad program is experiential in nature and normally does not carry academic credit and/or is not a key part of the student's academic program. The activity involves language acquisition and/or learning about another country and its culture.
Zhejiang Ocean University Scholarship2009/2010
- This [the Chinese language scholarship] is a full scholarship to learn Chinese language for one year at Zhejiang Ocean University, with whom VIU has an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).
- The scholarship includes full tuition and living expenses (and possibly airfare as well). Zhejiang is on Zhoushan island in the East China Sea, near Shanghai.
- To be eligible, students must have at least two years of undergraduate study and be Canadian citizens. Some prior knowledge of Chinese would be helpful, but not required.
