Highlights for Fall 2011

  • NEW Pay for Print system. Students can add money to their payprint account online at https://payprint.viu.ca. Print jobs with your Discovery account username and password. For step by step printing instructions click here.
  • Students: Don't Lose Your Work. Always save to your Discovery U: drive NOT to My Documents. See our File Management Basics.
  • NEW for loan at Equipment Loans:
    - Web cam kits including a web camera and headphones with microphone.
    - Equipment Loans laptops are also now loaded with Skype (a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet).
    - iPad dock connector to VGA adapter to allow iPad users to connect to a data projector.

  • Students & Employees - Borrowing a laptop from Equipment Loans?  If you want to login on campus to your VIU Discovery or Capitan account you will need to connect the laptop to the network using the included network cable.  The laptops can also be used with a local login if you are using a USB drive, playing a DVD/CD or accessing the Internet via the campus S-WISP wireless network.

Fall 2011 Tip

Outlook Archive files (.PSTs) that are saved on the network are NOT backed up.

If the Outlook Archive file becomes corrupted or is deleted it cannot be recovered. ITS recommends that Archived Outlook files be stored on CDs/DVDs or USB drives. A copy can be restored onto your computer so that you can easily access it from within Outlook.
