Work at Home Program:
The Microsoft® Work at Home program came about in response to the non-traditional work environment of staff and faculty in an educational setting.
- It provides staff and faculty with the ability to purchase select Microsoft® software products that have been specially discounted.
- Staff and faculty will be able to purchase a maximum of ONE copy of each available software title.
- Not all staff or faculty are eligible to purchase Work at Home software. See Work at Home Rights and Obligations for details.
- VIU Associates and Affiliates are not eligible to purchase software under the Work at Home Program.
- Students are not eligible to purchase software under the Work at Home Program.
Work at Home Rights and Obligations:
- Faculty and staff users who are licensed to use the particular product at school, have the right to run one copy of that product on a home PC.
- Software is for school-related purposes at home. You are not licensed to use the software at home for personal purposes.
- When a Staff or Faculty member's employment ends, or Vancouver Island University terminates their agreement with Microsoft®, then any software purchased under the Work at Home Agreement must be deleted at that time.
- Staff and Faculty have the right to run one copy of the product on a home PC that they own or lease.
- Staff and Faculty do not own the license or the CDs, rather they are authorized to use the licensed software and media pursuant to the terms and conditions of the license granted to Vancouver Island University for the term of the institution's agreement.
- No technical support is provided by Microsoft®, or Vancouver Island University, in association with work at home use.

Restrictions:
- Microsoft® does not transfer any ownership rights of any software, and they reserve all rights not expressly granted. Vancouver Island University's right to have it's users run the software is expressly limited to the rights described in the agreement.
- Neither Vancouver Island University nor it's users may separate the components of software made up of multiple components by running them on different computers, by upgrading or downgrading them at different times, or by transferring them separately, except as otherwise provided in the product use rights.
- Neither Vancouver Island University nor it's users may rent, lease, commercially host or lend any copy of the software, except where an agreement between Microsoft® and VIU has been made.
- Neither Vancouver Island University nor it's users may reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the software, except to the extent expressly permitted by applicable law despite this limitation.
- Neither Vancouver Island University nor it's users may make copies of the software and distribute them on media to our Student users.
- In order to run any version of a Microsoft® Windows operating system, Vancouver Island University or it's users must have a valid license for a Microsoft® Windows® operating system on each PC on which the software is run.
- Neither Vancouver Island University nor it's users may transfer
licenses to, or sublicense, the software to the U.S. Government.

Staff and faculty will be able to purchase a maximum of ONE copy of each available software title.
Microsoft offers its current version of it's operating system for work at home purposes. Windows® Vista will only be available until the current stock is depleted.

Cost of Software:
Each software title costs $25, which includes all applicable taxes. Payment for the software is made through payroll deduction. There are two options available for payment:- Payment over a number of pay periods. Minimum deduction of $25 per pay period.
- Lump sum payment.

For MS Office, Office for MAC, SharePoint Designer and Project, please refer to the Microsoft Home Use Program.

- Make a photocopy of the completed form for your records.
- There are two methods to submit your completed form to the IT
Helpdesk:
1. Send the completed form to the IT Helpdesk via internal mail or
2. Drop the completed form in the ITS drop box outside our offices in Building 305 - Room 105 or
3. Drop the completed form off at the IT Helpdesk Counter in Building 305 - Room 105 - The Helpdesk staff will process the form, this can take up to 3 days. The payroll deduction section of the form will be sent to Payroll by the IT Helpdesk.
- You will be contacted when the software is ready to be picked up (you will need to bring your Staff/faculty card). You then sign the IT Stock Log against the software you receive.

- Arrangements will be made for you to pickup the software at your campus, and for your completed form to be collected.

Limited Software Warranty:
Microsoft® warrants that each version of the software will perform substantially in accordance with their user documentation. This warranty is valid for a period of one year from the date you first run a copy of the version. This warranty does not apply if failure of the software has resulted from accident, abuse or misapplication.
Transfers:
Your rights are personal to you and as a result you may not transfer or otherwise assign your agreement or your rights or obligations under your agreement to any third party, except by Microsoft®'s express prior written consent.

Term and Termination:
Users may only run the software according to the terms of the agreement. If Vancouver Island University terminates their agreement with Microsoft® or your employment with Vancouver Island University ends, you are required to:
- Delete and remove software from the temporary ram (RAM) and
- Delete and remove software from the permanent memory (e.g. hard disk) of your home PC.
