Connect to a Network Printer

There are a number of networked printers on campus that faculty and staff can connect to. In some cases you will not know the name of the printer you want to print to, or would like to know which printers are available in a certain location.

The Add a Printer wizard is used to connect to networked computers on campus

  • Go to Start -> Settings -> Printers and Faxes.
  • Select Add a Printer from under the Printer Tasks on the left. This will start the Wizard, click Next for the first screen.
  • At the Local or Network printer window, ensure the network printer is selected, click Next.
  • If you know the full name of the printer you want to connect to, including the name of the print server it is on, select Connect tot this printer and enter it's name in the Name: field, OTHERWISE, leave the selection at Find a printer in the directory and click Next.
  • Printer names are usually in the following format: Building-Room/Function-additional information. In the Name: field enter the building number and click Find Now. In the bottom pane you will see a list of all available printer in that building. In the bottom pane, click on Name to sort the results. Click on the name of the printer you want to connect to and click OK.

Printer names and location are listed after the Find Now button is clicked.

  • You will be asked if you want to make this your default printer, select Yes or No and click Next.
  • You have successfully installed a printer, click Finish to close the Wizard.
