Image Editing / Graphic Design
Image editing and graphic design uses special software programs to manipulate digital images (e.g. resize, crop, rotate, adjust colour, fix red eye, remove or add elements of a photo, etc.) Click the links to software programs below for more detailed descriptions and self-help resources.
Software programs available in the Malaspina Commons for creating graphics from scratch include Adobe Illustrator CS2 and Macromedia Freehand. Programs for editing existing/scanned digital images are Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Fireworks, and Paint Shop Pro.
An "Intuos3" drawing tablet may be borrowed from the Library Service Desk and used to draw, sketch, or write directly into the graphics programs listed above, using the accompanying pen or mouse. The tablet may be borrowed for 4 hours at a time by VIU Students and employees (no renewals), and may be taken out of the library. Present your Employee or Student ID card at the Library Service Desk, and quote the tablet's call number, "LTABLET", to borrow the tablet. Instructions are included in the tablet package.
We also have a special program for creating business graphics such as flowcharts, organizational charts, and network diagrams: Microsoft Visio.
