Using your Laptop Computer on Campus
You can access the Internet with your laptop via our wireless networks: WISP and S-WISP (Secure WISP). If you don't have a wireless network adapter for your laptop, you can borrow one from the Service Desk with your student ID card (the loan period is 4 hours and you can take the adapter out of the Library if you wish.)
Alternatively, you can connect to data ports in certain locations. Data ports are available along the walls of the Commons and the 3rd floor of the Library (Bldg. 305). There are no data ports available on the 4th floor of the Library (wireless access only.) Network cables may be borrowed at the Service Desk with your student ID card.
VIU does not provide technical support for any equipment that is not owned by the University. If you have technical problems with your laptop, check the Nanaimo Yellow Pages under Computer Service, Repair and Cleaning. Please do not leave your laptop unattended in the Library or Commons.
You can borrow a laptop to use in the Library from the Service Desk with your student ID card. The loan period is 4 hours.
