Overview

The welding program is delivered in a progressive credential modular format, as well as block and continuous intake. Upon completion of each module the student receives a credential and can fully exit the program or continue to the next progressive module.

Level C is considered the first and foundation module and is taken on a full time in-class basis, the student then can progress to Level B and Level A, which are offered on a continuous intake, self paced basis.

As in other trades, Welders are required to complete logbooks, which include both the welder's technical (in school) training and work experience. Additionally, a welder’s logbook also contains industry specific practical tests, such as A.S.M.E. procedure test.  Welding students completing the B and A levels are also eligible to receive their Inter-Provincial (Red Seal) certificate.

Specialty training also available at Vancouver Island University

Career Options

Locally jobs are very competitive and a willingness to travel is an asset. Also jobs vary depending upon the level you achieve. As a Level C ticket holder you could find work in a shipyard, fabrication shop, or with the Department of Highways. With a Level B ticket you are eligible for work in a sawmill or anywhere that requires a welder who is qualified to do run-off pressure procedures. Upon completion of Level A you will be highly qualified to work in almost any location. After passing your Inter-Provincial assessment you will be eligible to work in most provinces in Canada, and many countries around the world.
