Getting the BC Vaccine Card

September 9, 2021

Instructions for International/Out of Province Students

Starting September 13, you will need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to access certain activities and locations. At VIU, this includes the pub, the gym, indoor organized events not related to your educational program, and on-campus student housing. Learn more in this note

Beginning September 13, you will need proof you have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and starting October 24, you will need proof you have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. In recognition that it may take some time for international and out-of-province students to get registered in the BC system, until September 26, you can show the proof of vaccination you used to enter Canada as well as your passport as your proof. After this time, you will need your BC Vaccine Card.

If you received one or two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine in another province or country, you must:

Step 1

Register with the Get Vaccinated provincial registration system.

  • If you do NOT yet have a BC provincial health number: you must call 1-833-838-2323 to have one assigned to you.
  • If you do have a BC PHN: you can go ahead and register online.
  • If you are already vaccinated, ignore the prompts to register for a vaccine.

Step 2

Once you are in the system, you must then submit proof of an official immunization record into the Provincial Immunization Registry.

  • It takes a minimum of 4-7 days for your registration to process.

Step 3

You can now visit the Get My Vaccine Card website and follow the steps outlined there.
