LDS 200 (3) Citizenship and Human Rights
An exploration of the historical and contemporary attitudes toward the rights of individuals with disabilities. Students will learn about inclusive educational and support services, community development, and will be able to identify resources and services in their community that promote and support full and meaningful participation of all citizens. LDS 200 was formerly called SCSW 120; credit will not be granted for both courses. (3:0:0)

LDS 210 (3) Leadership, Advocacy, and Social Policy
An exploration of leadership, advocacy, and social policy in Canada's disability sector within the context of social justice and social change. Topics include leadership theories and styles and various forms of advocacy as they pertain to the development of disability-related social policy. LDS 210 was formerly called DIDS 210; credit will not be granted for both courses. (3:0:0)
Prerequisite: LDS 200 (may be taken concurrently).
LDS 220 (3) Action Research and Learning in Community
An examination of community-based action research methodology and an opportunity for project exploration. Topics include participatory action research, cooperative inquiry, and appreciative inquiry. There is a focus on collaborative inquiry with a host citizen group agency when possible. LDS 220 was formerly called DIDS 220; credit will not be granted for both courses. (3:0:0)
Prerequisite: LDS 200 and LDS 210 (both may be taken concurrently).
LDS 230 (3) Leadership and Disability Studies Practicum
An engaged learning opportunity in community that is a continuation of LDS 220. In collaboration with a host community-based citizen group or agency, students implement, evaluate and provide recommendations for an action research plan that was developed in LDS 220. Weekly seminars are integral to this course. LDS 230 was formerly called DIDS 230; credit will not be granted for both courses. (0:1.5:0 -120)
Prerequisite: LDS 200, LDS 210 and LDS 220.
LDS 250 (3) Community Development
A study of the theories and skills of community organization and community development. Topics include understanding a community; models of community organization and development; community leadership; interdisciplinary teamwork in the community context; practical tools, skills and strategies for community development. LDS 250 was formerly called SSER 250; credit will not be granted for both courses. (0:3:0)
