Linda Love, former Dean of Trades and Applied Technology at Malaspina University-College, received an Outstanding Service Award at the Faculty of Trades & Applied Technology graduation ceremony on Friday (June 24).

"This award is presented to Linda in recognition of her outstanding service and incredible dedication to Malaspina University-College and to student success during her 23-year tenure at Malaspina," said president Rich Johnston.

"Her professional ethic, commitment and dedication is second to none."

Love, who retired last year, began her career with Malaspina in November, 1981, as a coordinator and instructor, dealing with services for students with disabilities. In 1986, she became the program coordinator for Malaspina’s Cowichan Campus, and was responsible for university programs, vocational programs and adult special education.

Love served as principal of the Cowichan Campus from 1988 to 1997, and then accepted a position at the Nanaimo campus as director of learning partnership development.

While Dean of Trades and Applied Technology between 1999 and 2004, Love was a member of Malaspina’s Education Council and The Industry Training Authority (ITA). She was Chair of the Trades Training Consortium Funding Committee and the post-secondary representative on ITA’s Implementation Committee.

Love’s volunteer affiliations, directly related to post-secondary education, included being Director of the Industry Training and Apprenticeship Commission from 1998 to 2001.

"Throughout her career, people mattered most to Linda," Johnston added. "She supported students, staff and faculty in their efforts, and unwaveringly took the high road when tough issues were being addressed. She is highly respected both inside the University-College community, and outside, for her commitment to supporting learning and teaching."
