The Maureen Washington Quartet returns to VIU’s Deep Bay Marine Field Station in Bowser Friday, October 16.

The Maureen Washington Quartet returns to Vancouver Island University’s (VIU) Deep Bay Marine Field Station for another delightful jazz and blues concert on Friday, October 16.


The Quartet, featuring Karel Roessingh on piano, Joey Smith on bass, and Damian Graham on drums, has played numerous sold out shows through-out BC including performances at major venues like The Cellar in Vancouver, Hermann’s Jazz Club in Victoria, Artspace in Prince George and The Black Box in Kelowna.


“The Maureen Washington Quartet played to a sold out audience last May at the Field Station, so we’re delighted to have them back,” says Stephanie Richards, Facilities coordinator at the Station.


“With their unique fresh sound and interpretation of jazz and blues standards along with performing memorable originals, this band has a lively engaging show which evokes every emotion and leaves you falling in love with the songs and music all over again,” she adds.


Concert guests can enjoy breathtaking views of Baynes Sound and feast on a gourmet dinner prepared by red seal chef Lila Ruzicka.


The sumptuous dinner includes AAA prime rib roasted to perfection, caramelized onions and red wine jus, rosemary Yorkshire pudding, Belgium ale steamed mussels, seasonal vegetable medley, garlic crème frais mashed potatoes, assorted salads, raw bar with a variety of accompaniments, pumpkin cheesecake, chocolate orange truffles, and sssorted petit fours. Wine and beer will be available for an additional cost.


Dinner begins at 5:30 pm, followed by the concert at 7 pm.

About VIU’s Deep Bay Marine Field Station


Located approximately an hour north of Nanaimo, the Deep Bay Marine Field Station in Bowser is a key research facility for VIU and a popular tourism destination for the region.
