Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra Performs at VIU's Deep Bay Marine Field Station Aug. 22

Enjoy a perfect summer evening Aug. 22 - breathtaking views of Baynes Sound, sumptuous food and a concert by the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra at VIU's Deep Bay Marine Field Station.

Enjoy breathtaking views of Baynes Sound, a delicious appetizer buffet and sweet summer tunes performed by the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra (NCO) at Vancouver Island University’s (VIU) Deep Bay Marine Field Station on Saturday, August 22. Sounds like the perfect summer evening, right?

“Over the years, we in the Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra have played sumptuous music, so when we’re asked to play a concert of this sort - something lighter, sweeter, such as classical favourites, we look at the many goodies in our library,” said NCO Board member Bruce Farquharson.

“You’re likely to hear everything from Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik to Themes from Harry Potter or the beautiful Welsh folktune, All Through the Night, or perhaps the indescribable beauty of a single movement by Handel or Bach followed, perhaps, by a tasteful Pavane by Faure or a fiery Tango by Albeniz, and so on. Whatever your taste, we’ll likely play something you already know and love.”

Tickets ($20 for the buffet and $20 for the concert, plus GST) must be purchased in advance by calling 250.740.6611. Guests can choose to attend the concert only. The appetizer buffet will be prepared on site by Red Seal chef Lila Ruzicka. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

Manager Brian Kingzett added the concert is a perfect chance for visitors to discover other exciting features of the Field Station including the new Underwater Harvester’s Association Grey Whale Exhibit, which hangs from the ceiling above the stairwell, and a public aquarium teeming with sea life from local waters.
