3 Request your transcripts and gather and copy all necessary documents.

Official transcripts from your high school and any universities or colleges you have attended are required when you apply to VIU. Some programs will also require additional documents such as a resume or letters of recommendation, and an assessment test may be required. If you are currently attending high school in British Columbia or the Yukon, you will need to provide your Personal Education Number (PEN) when you fill out the application for admission, and you may also be asked to submit an interim transcript for admission purposes.

Additional admission forms

4 Submit your application, transcripts and additional forms or documentation.

You can apply online or you can complete a printed form that can be delivered to any campus Registration Centre. An application fee is required for each program you request admission to.

Within two weeks of receiving your request, VIU will send you a letter acknowledging receipt of your application and notifying you of any next steps required to complete your application. Applicants are considered for admission only when all required information and documentation has been received.

Ready to Apply?

Apply to VIU Online (Recommended.  VIU’s online application uses the services of British Columbia’s centralized application service EducationPlannerBC.)

Or Print application form (You may choose to apply for admission using a printed form; however, this may result in slight delays in processing.)

Important notes

Students will be considered for admission only when all information on the admission form has been supplied and all required documentation submitted. See Admission Requirements and Program Outlines.

All applications, transcripts, and additional forms become the property of Vancouver Island University and are not returned, whether a student is accepted or not. The only exception is where a document is deemed to be irreplaceable. If submitting such a document, please request its return at the time of submission.

Students applying for more than one program must submit an application for each request; however, only one set of transcripts will be required.

A new application must be completed any time a student is re-applying for a program – it may also be necessary to re-submit all supporting documents.  If you are considering taking a year off, you should explore the opportunity for an official Leave of Absence.  (Link to general regulations page)

5 The Admissions Decision.

VIU sends official notification regarding admission decisions by mail.  If you are offered admission, a tuition deposit will be required to confirm your acceptance. The amount of the deposit and the deadline for payment will be noted in your offer letter, and it will be applied to your first semester's tuition fees.

If we are not able to offer you admission to your chosen program, we can help you upgrade your qualifications or explore other opportunities.
