This page details the active formal transfer agreements we have with other post-secondary schools.

You can still apply to VIU as a transfer student if your school is not listed here. 

Bachelor of Arts agreements

College of the Rockies to Bachelor of Arts Criminology Major

Who is eligible?

College of the Rockies students who complete the Criminal and Social Justice Diploma 

What you’ll get

  • transfer credit for up to 60 credits towards Vancouver Island University’s Bachelor of Arts Criminology Major (see appendix A in the agreement)
  • priority registration alongside continuing VIU students
  • ongoing support at Vancouver Island University, even if the agreement changes in the future

What you need to know

You will still need to complete some first- and second-year Vancouver Island University courses such as POLI 151, CRIM 204 and CRIM 230. Be sure to select your College of the Rockies electives carefully — some count directly toward VIU’s program.

College of the Rockies to VIU BA Criminology Transfer Agreement 

Bachelor of Design agreements

North Island College to VIU Bachelor of Design in Graphic Design

Who is eligible?

North Island College (NIC) students who complete the Communication Design Diploma (either the Design & Development or Design & Media stream) with a minimum “C” grade in all courses.

What you’ll get

  • transfer credit for up to 60 credits toward VIU’s Bachelor of Design in graphic design (see appendix A and B in the agreement)
  • admission to VIU’s Bachelor of Design in Graphic Design 
  • priority registration alongside continuing VIU students
  • ongoing support at Vancouver Island University, even if the agreement changes in the future

What you need to know

You must submit a portfolio and attend an interview.

NIC and VIU Graphic Design Transfer Agreement

Bachelor of Hospitality Managment agreements

Canadore College to VIU Bachelor of Hospitality Management

Who is eligible?

Canadore students with a diploma in Culinary Management

What you’ll get

  • a block transfer of 60 credits towards VIU’s Bachelor of Hospitality Management
  • priority registration alongside continuing VIU students
  • ongoing support at Vancouver Island University, even if the agreement changes in the future

What you need to know

You must complete VIU degree English requirements. 

Canador and VIU Bachelor of Hospitality Management Transfer Agreement

Sault College to VIU Bachelor of Hospitality Management

Who is eligible?

Sault College students who have successfully completed the Culinary Management Diploma

What you’ll get

  • a block transfer of 60 credits towards Vancouver Island University’s Bachelor of Hospitality Management
  • priority registration alongside continuing VIU students
  • ongoing support at Vancouver Island University, even if the agreement changes in the future

What you need to know

You must complete VIU degree English requirements. 

Sault College and VIU Bachelor of Hospitality Managment Agreement

Bachelor of Science agreements

Yukon University to VIU BSc Major in Biology

Who is eligible?

Yukon students who have successfully completed the Diploma of Biological Sciences

What you’ll get

  • transfer credit for up to 71 credits (see appendix A in the agreement)
  • priority registration alongside continuing VIU students
  • ongoing support at Vancouver Island University, even if the agreement changes in the future

What you need to know

You must complete VIU degree English requirements. 

Yukon University and VIU Biology Transfer Agreement

Yukon University to VIU Bachelor of Science, Major in Geoscience

Who is eligible?

Yukon students with up to 21 first- and second-year university courses within the Yukon University Earth Sciences Diploma.

What you’ll get

  • transfer credit for up to 20 courses (see appendix A in the agreement)
  • priority registration alongside continuing VIU students
  • ongoing support at Vancouver Island University, even if the agreement changes in the future

What you need to know

To achieve the B.Sc. degree you will need to satisfy VIU’s degree English requirement and meet its breadth requirement

You  must take additional first-or second-year courses beyond those granted for transfer to satisfy the B.Sc. Geoscience Major requirements of the program.

Yukon U and VIU Geoscience Transfer Agreement

Bachelor of Tourism agreements

College of the Rockies to VIU Bachelor of Tourism Management

Who is eligible? 

College of the Rockies students with a diploma in:

  • Tourism and Recreation Management 
  • Adventure Tourism Business Operations Diploma

What you’ll get

  • a block transfer of 60 credits towards VIU’s Bachelor of Tourism Management
  • priority registration alongside continuing VIU students
  • ongoing support at Vancouver Island University, even if the agreement changes in the future

What you need to know

You must complete VIU degree English requirements. 

College of the Rockies and VIU Tourism Transfer Agreement

Co-admission agreements

North Island College Co-admission Agreement

Who is eligible? 

Vancouver Island University and North Island College current students pursuing a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science credential

What you’ll get

  • the ability to study at both institutions at the same time
  • priority registration
  • course completion and grade information is automatically shared between North Island College and VIU

What you need to know

  • Some Bachelors of Arts or Bachelor of Science limited entry programs are not included in the co-admission agreement.
