Applying to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Option A program?
You must complete a 65- to 85-minute situational judgment assessment called Casper. We look at the results of your Casper test along with your grade point average as part of the applicant screening process.
What is Casper?
Casper stands for computer-based assessment for sampling personal characteristics. It’s an online test which assesses what you would do in tough situations. It helps us to determine if you have the skills you need to be successful in the program.
How to sign up for the Casper test
To take Casper, you need a desktop or laptop computer with a microphone, a webcam and a reliable high-speed internet connection.
Please go to AcuityInsights.app to sign up and reserve a test using a piece of government-issued photo ID and your VIU student number.
There is a fee to write the test and an additional fee for each school you choose to have your results sent to. You will be given a limited number of testing dates and times.
Please direct any accommodation requests and general inquiries on the test to support@acuityinsights.app. Yuu can also use the chat feature in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen on the AcuityInsights website. The chat feature will be available after you have created your account and and logged into the AcuityInsights website.
Plan carefully
Please apply to the program before you take your Casper test. Book an early appointment so you can rebook if your first booking doesn’t work out. The list of dates below are your only options, and there are no exceptions to submitting your test.
Please use an email address that you check regularly; there may be updates to the test schedule.
What to expect from the Casper test
The Casper test has 11 sections of video and written scenarios. Following each scenario, you must answer a set of probing questions under a time limit. Each response is graded by a different rater, giving a very robust and reliable view of personal and professional characteristics important to our program.
No studying is required for Casper, although you may want to familiarize yourself with the test structure at AcuityInsights.app, and ensure you have a quiet environment to take the test.
Casper test results are valid for one admission cycle. If you have taken the test in a previous year, must take the test again for subsequent applications.
Test score sent directly to VIU
Your Casper score will be sent directly to VIU 2 to 3 weeks after your testing date. These scores are not released to students.
