The Casper Test – Post Baccalaureate Degree (PB) 

The CASPer^® Test by Acuity Insights

All applicants to the Bachelor of Education – Post Baccalaureate B.Ed. (PB) Degree at Vancouver Island University are required to complete an online assessment, the Casper® test, to be eligible for admission. Casper® is a 65 to 85 minute open response situational judgment test that allows applicants to demonstrate their social intelligence and professionalism by showing how they think, make decisions, and approach complex situations, such as those faced in the teaching profession. It complements the Grade Point Average (GPA) calculation used for applicant screening.

How to sign up for Casper®

1. Create an Acuity Insights account. Go to Acuity Insights sign up. Select Canada as the location.
2. Register for Canadian Teacher’s Education – After Degree (CSP-20209) test using a VIU student number and a piece of government-issued photo ID. 
3. Please register with the same email address used in the VIU application process and check it regularly, as there may be updates to the test schedule, etc.
4. Select a suitable Casper test date from the available options (see below). Testing dates and times are limited and based on program admission timelines and requirements. Available dates and times are the only ones available for Fall 2027 Post Baccalaureate program application.
5. Test registration must be completed at least three (3) days prior to a preferred test date to allow for identity verification and payment processing timelines. 
6. Early test registration supports system and technology requirements check, sample test taking and the addressing of any questions, etc. Last-minute bookings are not recommended.
7. For test result distribution, Vancouver Island University, Bachelor of Education Post Baccalaureate must be selected. Early test taking and results distribution before the application document deadline supports early review of application and possible program admission.

Technical requirements for Casper®

To complete the test, the following is required:

• A valid email address (the same one used to complete the VIU Application)
• Desktop or laptop computer, ideally using Windows or macOS 
  • Smartphones and tablets (i.e. iPads) are not supported
• Working webcam and microphone
  • Wired inputs or built in microphones and cameras are recommended
• Reliable high-speed internet connection with download speeds of at least 1.5 Mbps and upload speeds of at least 2Mbps.

Accommodations

• Testing accommodations are available directly through Acuity Insights and need to be arranged at least four (4) weeks prior to a taking the test

Casper® Results

• Results are valid for one VIU admissions cycle only. 
• Applicants who have taken a previous Casper® test will need to retake it.
