PAT 501 (3) Introduction to Psychedelic Medicine (Ends Dec 2025)
This introductory theory course lays the groundwork and essential principles for the interpersonal and therapeutic relationships that are crucial for practitioners involved in psychedelic medicine. Students explore and situate themselves within the historical and cross-cultural dimensions of these substances, drawing insights from traditional healers and emerging experts in the field. (3:0:0)

PAT 501 (3) Introduction to Psychedelic Medicine (Effective Jan 2026)
Introduces key psychedelic substances and the common landscapes and qualities of non-ordinary states of consciousness. Applies foundational counselling approaches and personality theories relevant to psychedelic therapy from a western psychotherapeutic approach. Includes experiential learning through simulated therapy scenarios to apply foundational principles and support development of clinical and therapeutic skillfulness. (3:0:0)

PAT 502 (3) Psychedelic Medicine: Trauma-Informed and Inclusive Care (Ends Dec 2025)
This theory course bridges Western and Indigenous Knowledge systems, fostering the integration of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion principles, Indigenous cultural safety, cultural humility, trauma-informed practice, energetic and spiritual care in psychedelic medicine. Students delve further into intersectionality, decolonization, system-thinking, expanded states of consciousness, and multigenerational and collective trauma. (3:0:0)
Prerequisite: Must have completed or be actively enrolled in PAT 501.

PAT 502 (3) Psychedelic Medicine: Trauma-Informed and Inclusive Care (Effective Jan 2026)
Emphasizes trauma-informed care, ethics, cultural humility, and inclusive practice in psychedelic therapy. Focuses on group and community of practice-based counselling frameworks that support culturally safe, trauma-informed practice, with a focus on relational dynamics, facilitation strategies, and cross-cultural, ritual-informed models. Skillfulness development is enhanced through simulated therapy facilitation practices. (3:0:0)

PAT 503 (3) Psychedelic-assisted Therapy: Professional Practice (Ends Dec 2025)
In this theory course, students deepen their foundational knowledge and collaborate within multidisciplinary care delivery teams to enhance competencies in psychedelic-assisted therapy. The focus is to encompass comprehensive assessments, address common challenges when supporting individuals in non-ordinary states of consciousness, and integrate insights to ensure seamless continuity of care. Prerequisite: PAT 501 and PAT 502.
PAT 503 (3) Psychedelic-assisted Therapy: Professional Practice (Effective Jan 2026)
Bridges theoretical foundations with operational practice in psychedelic-assisted therapy through a multidisciplinary lens. Explores ethical decision-making models, regulatory and legal responsibilities, and professional standards. Integrates simulated client interactions and protocol development to support ethical, inclusive, and accountable care across assessment, preparation, dosing, and integration phases. (3:0:0)

PAT 504 (6) Psychedelic-assisted Therapy in Practice (Practicum) (Ends Dec 2025)
This practicum readies practitioners for the frontline of care by bridging theory and practice, highlighting research integration, contextual awareness, and ethical principles. Under the supervision of licensed practitioners at the practicum site, students gain hands-on experience while demonstrating core competencies in psychedelic-assisted therapy. (0:0:0 -90)

Co-requisites: PAT 503.
PAT 504 (6) Psychedelic-assisted Therapy in Practice (Practicum) (Effective Jan 2026)
Provides 90 hours of supervised professional training through direct supervision, case review, consultation, group supervision, or case management. Students develop their competencies through facilitation and counselling in clinical or community settings, or by contributing to project-based knowledge translation and mobilization initiatives. Emphasizes ethical practice, contextual awareness, and integration of theory into applied psychedelic-assisted care. (0:0:0 -90)
