Your student record is private
Vancouver Island University understands and appreciates that your student record is private. We will not allow anyone to discuss your business with us without your permission. We do not assume that your parents, your spouse, your children or anyone else has permission to act on your behalf. To reveal any details concerning your record to another person without your permission would be contrary to the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
How we protect your information
We protect access to your online student record by assigning you a student number and an online student record password. You should take great care when sharing your password with others. Changes made through your online student record by someone using your password will be considered to have been authorized by you.
When you visit your online student record, you will be asked to set a security question and answer. We will use your student number and the answer to your security question to verify your identity when you communicate with us over the phone. If you visit us in person, you can either provide this information or photo identification.
Authorize someone to make inquiries
If you want to authorize someone to make inquiries on your behalf (in person, over the phone or by email) you must provide them with your student number and the answer to your security question. Without this authorization we will not be able to discuss your application, registration, fees, class schedule or any other detail about you or your status at Vancouver Island University.
