There are two ways to start learning a trade. If you’re new to a trade, start with a foundation program which gives you entry-level training. A foundation program will help you build skills and get you ready for work in your trade. In a foundation program you get a combination of theory and hands-on experience that will prepare you for an apprenticeship.
If you have some experience in the trade, choose an apprenticeship to continue your training. Your experience can come from the job site or from a foundation program. You need an employer to sponsor your apprenticeship, and you do technical training in a trade school after you've done the required number of work-based training hours.
