Adult and Continuing Education: 1980 - 1989

Emi Sammon taught German through the Community Education Department of Malaspina College from 1982 to 1989.

 

In Fall 1982, Jo Merrill started teaching art courses through Community Education – Drawing, Painting, Drawing in Charcoal and Pencil, and Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.  She continued teaching with Community Education into the early 1990s. The drawing and painting courses taught by Jo Merrill for Malaspina were popular, especially with senior citizens.  The Yellow Point area artist has numerous exhibitions, publications, and books to her credit, and has shown her versatility with work on set design for a number of Nanaimo-area productions.  She received her training at Eastern Oregon College, University of Idaho, University of Oregon School of Art and Architecture, and University of California School of Fine Art.

Marion Woodson taught a variety of courses in the counselling/social services field:  Assertiveness Training, Helping Relationships, and Basic Communication Skills.  Marion started teaching with Community Education in 1982, and taught through the 1980s. She also worked on developing a teaching career exploration programs, a Native home-school counselling program, and professional development for teachers.
