Veronica Milner donated her historic estate in Qualicum Beach to Malaspina University College in 1996.  The property includes a 1929 colonial-style residence and an English garden looking over the Strait of Georgia containing more than 500 species of rhododendron.  Milner made the gift with the intention of preserving the gardens for future generations.

Leslie G. Beardsley and Tozan Master Potter Yukio Yamamoto fire the Tozan Kiln built at Malaspina University-College in 1995 and governed by the Tozan Kiln Society. The kiln, one of three in the world, was relocated in 2009 to Tamagawa University in Cedar, BC.

"Don't Pause Over Education" - The Navigator

Students protest plans for Nanaimo's Inner Route (Parkway) to pass through the middle of Malaspina's 5th Street Campus. In the end the protest was successful and the Parkway was re-directed around Malaspina.

"College expanding: Malaspina mirrors Nanaimo's construction"

Malaspina University-College expands as Nanaimo's construction booms. Projects in the 1990s include: the Pacific Institute of Aquaculture and Fisheries, expansion of the math/chemistry building, an extension of the environmental sciences building, a new arts and sciences building, a second story on the arts building, renovations of the upper and lower cafeterias, and construction of a new student services/business programs building.
