First Nations Studies

The BA in First Nations Studies first started in 1996 and was one of the first degrees offered independently by Malaspina University-College.  This unique and multi-disciplinary program grew from a department committed to the learning and sharing of knowledge about Indigenous peoples. This 1994 photo is of initial faculty, program managers, and elders in the Arts One program which led to the BA in First Nations Studies.  From left to right: Ian Whitehouse, Richard Atleo, Ruth Kroek, Melody Martin, Louise Underwood, and Joyce White.  Missing: Ellen White.
