1937: A building construction class with Mr. Daniel Egdell is offered in a converted garage on Machleary Street without heat or plumbing. During winter months, wood donated from Nanaimo community members keep students and staff warm. Proficient students are allowed to leave school to enter the workforce early. The three instructors at the training centre are paid a monthly salary of $125.
