Tuition Giveaway Contest (the “Contest”)

Contest Rules

1. Contest Period

1.1. The Contest period begins at 12:01 am Nanaimo time on October 8, 2020 and closes at 9 am Nanaimo time on July 15, 2021 (“Contest Period”).

2. Eligible Entrant

2.1. An entrant is an Eligible Entrant when they are:

2.1.1. residents of Canada, excluding Quebec, who are Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada;

2.1.2. starting undergraduate full-time studies (“undergraduate full-time studies” means the entrant is taking a minimum of four courses (12 credits) in a semester, or is registered in a full-time Trades and Applied Technology program) at Vancouver Island University in the Fall 2021 semester, and have not attended Vancouver Island University as a full time student during any semester from and between Spring 2018 semester to Summer 2021 semester; and

2.1.3. not an employee of Vancouver Island University, or family member of an employee.

3. How to Enter and Odds

3.1. No purchase is necessary.

3.2. During the Contest Period, follow the directions and enter online at www.viu.ca/worth-it (the “Contest Website”). You must provide your name, email address, and daytime telephone number to enter the Contest. Vancouver Island University is not responsible for any change of your email address, mailing address, or telephone number.

3.3. Limit of one (1) entry per entrant.

3.4. All entries become the property of Vancouver Island University.

3.5. Odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries.

4. Contest Draw and Winner

4.1. One entry will be selected from all received entries in a random draw conducted by Vancouver Island University representatives on Tuesday, July 21, 2021, at 3 pm Nanaimo time, in Nanaimo, BC, or some other date or time reasonably close thereto as may be required (the “Drawn Entrant”).

4.2. Vancouver Island University will attempt to contact the Drawn Entrant using the contact information provided on the entry. If the Drawn Entrant does not respond as requested by Vancouver Island University within 10 clear days of Vancouver Island University’s attempt to contact the Drawn Entrant, the Drawn Entrant will be disqualified and Vancouver Island select the next Drawn Entrant.

4.3. In order to win, the Drawn Entrant must:

4.3.1. correctly answer a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question to be administered by email or telephone and secondly;

4.3.2. provide proof of Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Residence; and

4.3.3. read, agree to, and sign a Declaration, Release & Discharge Form provided by Vancouver Island University (the “Release”) within 10 clear days of being declared the Winner.

4.4. Failure to Provide proof of status within Canada and return the Release within the time specified by Vancouver Island University or failure to meet the eligibility requirements of this Contest shall result in forfeit of the prize by the Winner and Vancouver Island University will select another Drawn Entrant in accordance with these Contest Rules. If the Winner is under the age of majority, their parent or legal guardian will also be required to sign the Release.

4.5. By entering the Contest, the Winner agrees that Vancouver Island University may post on Vancouver Island University’s website or otherwise advertise the Winner’s name and likeness.

5. Prize

5.1. The prize is one (1) $2,500.00 credit toward Fall 2021 tuition at Vancouver Island University (“VIU”) for any full-time undergraduate course of studies (“undergraduate full-time studies” means the entrant is taking a minimum of four courses (12 credits) in a semester, or is registered in a full-time Trades and Applied Technology program).

5.2. The prize will be awarded to the Winner, who must be an Eligible Entrant, validly enrolled and accepted into an undergraduate full-time program at Vancouver Island University.

5.3. If the prize amount exceeds the Winner’s Fall 2021 tuition amount, then the excess prize amount will be applied to the Winner’s tuition for the Winter 2022 term. If the Winner does not attend courses in Winter 2022, the Winner shall forfeit the portion of the prize that was to be applied to Winter 2022 tuition costs.

5.4. The prize is non-transferrable and must be accepted as awarded. The prize cannot be redeemed for cash, and cannot be substituted except at the sole discretion of Vancouver Island University.

6. No Liability

6.1. Vancouver Island University will not be responsible for late, lost, illegible, incomplete, inaccurate or destroyed entries, and all such entries are void. Vancouver Island University will not be liable for any failure of the Contest Website, will not assume any responsibility for incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry information, technical malfunctions, human or technical error, printing errors, lost, delayed or garbled data or transmissions, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or failures of any telephone or computer lines or networks, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof. Entries are subject to verification by Vancouver Island University. Vancouver Island University, its employees, directors, officers, affiliates, agents and representatives are not liable for (a) late, lost, delayed, not received, damaged, misdirected, incomplete, stolen, fraudulent or illegible entries (all of which entries shall be automatically void and ineligible); (b) failure to receive entries due to transmission failures, busy signals, traffic congestion on the internet or at any website or technical failures of any kind, including, without limitation, malfunctioning of any network, servers, access providers, hardware or software, whether originating with sender or recipient, or (c) any injury or damage to entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this contest and breaches of privacy due to interference by third party computer "hackers". Entry material/data not satisfying the entry requirements or that have been tampered with or altered are void. In the event it is determined that an entrant has entered in a fashion not sanctioned by these Contest Rules, the entrant will be disqualified and all of the entries submitted by the entrant will be disqualified.

7. Amending Contest

7.1. Vancouver Island University reserves the right to terminate or suspend this Contest or to amend the Contest Rules at any time and in any way, without prior notice. Without limiting the foregoing, if, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as originally planned, due to any reasons such as tampering or infection by computer virus, Vancouver Island University reserves the right to terminate the Contest and conduct a random draw from all previously received eligible entries.

8. General Rules

8.1. By participating in the Contest, each entrant agrees to: (a) be bound by these Contest Rules and the decisions of Vancouver Island University; and (b) release and hold harmless Vancouver Island University, and its Board of Governors, officers, employees and agents from and against any and all liabilities, losses, claims, demands, costs and expenses (including lawyer’s fees and litigation expenses on a solicitor and own client basis) whatsoever to which any of them may become subject arising from any actions or omissions by the entrant and the Winner.

8.2. The decisions of Vancouver Island University in relation to this Contest will be final and binding on all entrants.

8.3. Each prize claim is subject to verification by Vancouver Island University and/or its designated representatives. Entries made with multiple addresses, under multiple identities, or through the use of any device or artifice to enter multiple times or entries that are in excess of the permitted number of entries during the Contest period are automatically void. All Contest entries obtained through unauthorized sources or which are incomplete, forged, irregular or fraudulent in any way or otherwise not in compliance with these Contest Rules are automatically void.

8.4. Vancouver Island University reserves the right to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest, to be acting in violation of these Contest Rules, or to be acting in an unfair or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any other person.

8.5. The personal information you provide to enter the Contest is collected pursuant to section 26 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, B.C. and will be used by Vancouver Island University for the administration of the Contest and related purposes. Personal information will only accessible by authorized Vancouver Island University employees and representatives, or as otherwise permitted by law. Vancouver Island University will not disclose personal information to an outside third party unless permitted by law.

8.6. By entering, entrants who provide consent will receive future communications from Vancouver Island University for recruitment, informational and promotional purposes. 8.7. The Contest is governed by the laws of British Columbia and all applicable laws of Canada, as well as these Contest Rules.
